Sale of Tampa Flyer, Weekly Shopper Publication

Tampa Flyer Client:
Flyer Printing Company, Inc., owner of The Tampa Flyer, a weekly shopper publication which is delivered by mail with circulation in excess of 900,000 in the Tampa, Florida metropolitan area.

Harte-Hanks, Inc., acquired The Tampa Flyer from the Flyer Printing Company. Harte-Hanks is a worldwide direct and targeted marketing company that provides direct marketing services and shopper advertising opportunities. They also own the PennySaver, known as California’s best-read publication, reaching 10 million homes every week. With the acquisition of The Tampa Flyer, Harte-Hanks will have a circulation close to 12 million.

CEA's Role:
  • CEA represented the owner of the company on an exclusive basis to sell the company. The principal shareholder of the company had an extensive history of ownership of similar publications and knew personally all three of the likely buyers.
  • The owner elected to hire CEA to create a competitive atmosphere without utilizing an auction process. The net result was a purchase price of $15 million greater than the owner had anticipated.
